This is the first day of the Shelley Incentivized Testnet and we're excited to be a part of the Cardano journey. Fasten your seatbelts because it's going to be one amazing ride!
Shelley is ALIVE!
The long anticipated arrival of the Shelley testnet is here. This is the first big milestone where years of preparation is going to be put to the test as staking is introduced to the world of Cardano.
The Purpose of Shelley Testnet
The Shelley Testnet is going live with Jormungandr designed with Rust. The purpose of the testnet is to learn how people will stake in the real world over a period of 3-6 months when incentivised to do so. This will provide valuable information for the final preparations and improvements needed before introducing Shelley Mainnet to the world, likely in Q2 next year 2020.
The Rust code has not been designed using formal methods so the testnet, like all testnets is likely to experience downtime, especially early on in the testnet when many real world stakers open their Daedalus wallets for the very first time, stressing the system in a way never tested before during the pre-tests in the past several months. This is exactly why a testnet is needed, to stress the system in this way, and to find all the areas for improvement so these improvements can be incorported into the Shelley Mainnet before it goes live.
When the Shelley Testnet is complete, Shelley Mainnet will go live using Jormungandr designed with Haskell, a far superior coding language to the Rust code being used in this testnet.
Elligibility to Stake
All those who had their ADA stored in either their Daedalus or Yoroi Mainnet wallets at the time of the snapshot which happened at 12:00 UTC on 29th November 2019 will be able to take part in this Shelley Testnet. The specially designed Daedalus and Yoroi Testnet wallets will make it easy for these users to claim and retrieve their testnet ADA and begin staking.
If you had your ADA stored on a cold storage hardware device at the time of the snapshot then it will be possible to take part in this testnet but it is not recommended as there are security risks involved in retrieving your testnet ADA from cold storage devices.
If you had your ADA stored on an exchange at the time of the snapshot then you will not be able to take part in this testnet and will have to wait for Shelley Mainnet to take part in ADA staking.
Stake with PlanetStake
Here at PlanetStake we have been working hard to deliver our staking solution to you and it goes live today under the ticker name "STAKE". In a few days time the Daedalus and Yoroi wallets will be available for the general public to download and begin staking. PlanetStake will appear as a staking option in both of these official wallets using the ticker name "STAKE".
